ANIMALS LOVER'S LEAGUE (14/1/09)

over the weekend, i brought dayani and gabriel to the pet shelter. dayani had been there before, so i was pretty assured that she would not freak out. the latter on the other hand, had not. to complicate things, gab was no huge animal lover and had mentioned to me about his uncertainty towards dogs and/or cats. in a nutshell, he sounded quite apprehensive about the whole trip. i was quite afraid too. i did not want my friend to go back with a limb less. for familiarization-purpose, we brought him for an orientation.

we showed him dogs that could never be found at the shelter. haha (he was unsure of this at that time though).

the actual shelter

my fears will completely unfound. if he was concealing his fear, he had me thorougly fooled. you see, he went around giving pats to every dog that came near him.

this is dayani.
seeing how my friends were enjoying themselves , i explored the shelter on my own.

the german shepherd that i found cut a imperious figure amongst all the other dogs at the shelter. having said that, it looked pretty tame too. no incessant barkings and growls of malice towards me. on my next visit, perhaps i shall ask for permission to enter his enclosure. haha.
when i was busy sweeping and clearing the cat's cages, my friends were engaged in other activities. they cleaned the dogs and prepared food. apparently, you have to prepare dog food at the cat's enclosure. the behaviour of dogs become somewhat erratic when they realise food is around. perhaps their innate instinct of survival is triggered, they want food and will tear each other apart to get it. gang-fights during meal-time is not uncommon.
this is the tua mao species that i always refer to.
