over the past few weeks, two of my friends celebrated their 21st birthday. wenting on 24th jan and shu qing on the 26th. it was a good time for catching up. speaking of 21st, i will be spending mine in vietnam, on a youth expedition project. i hope no one finds out during the trip lest they gang up and throw me into a well. hahaha. with regards to any early celebration, i am in the midst of planning. with my final year exams looming around the corner and the recent opening of university application, i am in a tight dilemma.
university application
"should i continue with electronics?" likely. well. what else can i take? i know my strengths (calculations fine. memorising die). yes, writing and reading may be something which i have gain considerable interest over the years, but to venture into courses which require an astronomical amount of brain space? no thank you. i am a dreamer. but when it comes to certain matters, i'm pretty pragmatic. me in biz or fass? wow. that's somewhat mind-boggling. those courses are good (no doubt), but with my current grasp of knowledge in those fields, i foresee myself dying horribly. hmm. even if i were to venture out of engineering, the furthest i will end up is bachelor of science (unsure of which major yet). yet another problem is the university i should enroll in. fortunately, in the context of singapore, there are only 2 reputable engineering institution. ntu and nus. this is unlike the uk or us where there are dozens of world-class universities to choose from.
NTU - as the name goes, is a technology school and engineering is their forte (ok, biz is blazing their way up the world rankings too, but that's another matter). in addition, it is perceived as more poly-friendly and majority of my friends are going/in there.
NUS - with regards to rankings, be it overall or solely technology-wise, NUS leads the way. 30th in the world, 9th in technology. wow. i am certain this means something (if it isn't, why do universities display them at their website? isn't that a deliberate attempt to showcase how good they are?), especially so if you are planning to work overseas. then there is the USP, which attracts me greatly; their writing module is said to be both challenging and perspective broadening. enticing isn't it?! travelling to & fro from school is faster too. i have straight bus from bt.panjang interchange.
argh. comparing them is tantamount to making a choice between SP & NP, not much difference. i think i will apply for Electrical & Electronic Engineering at both NTU & NUS. the future seems so exciting.
